Blasieholmstorg / The Blasieholm square
Text from https://www.waymarking.com
On Blasieholmstorg are two green verdigrised bronze horses with their heads directed towards those who pass along their sides. They have been caught, right in step, walking in the direction of the Castle and the Royal Garden.
These bronze replicas of horses have probably been seen by those well-traveled on San Mark's Basilica loggia [in Venice, Italy]. These are copies of the original four gilded horses captured as a booty during the Fourth Crusade against Constantinople in 1204.
The horses have gradually inspired replicas around the world. The models of them on Blasieholmstorg have been from two casts found in the Glyptotek in Copenhagen and PG Bergman received permission to make plaster molds for bronze casting.
The horses on Blasieholmstorg are not shackled and do not draw a chariot with four horses, but have freedom and are walking.
